The holiday season is a time of celebration and joy but often comes with its own set of struggles. For many travelers, the flight home can be one of the most difficult experiences. It’s not uncommon for people to experience symptoms ranging from mood swings, to fatigue, to headaches after a long-haul flight. Sometimes, it feels like this whole idea of traveling was just a dream that you had–you’re back in your hometown and you don’t know how to come back down to earth. Here are some ways that you can beat post-travel depression.

 

Stay active and get outside

The best way to beat post-travel depression is try to stay active. When you feel lethargic, get up and go outside. Take a walk around your neighborhood or go for a run in the park. You don’t have to do anything too strenuous, just make sure that you’re getting some sun and fresh air. This will help you reset your mind and body.

 

Eat healthy foods

It’s tempting to binge on junk food and sugar-laden treats during a time that is supposed to be all about celebration. But while your holiday guests might still be in party mode, you’ll want to take care of yourself. Make it a priority to eat healthy foods like vegetables, salads, and fruits. If you’re in need of a pick-me-up, have some caffeine or tea instead of your regular cup of joe! These foods will help keep you energized and happy.
