Quilt Challenge Week 1: Celano Star

As 2018 started, I knew I wanted to continue to challenge myself to grow and learn more about quilting. After all, it has only been a year since I even knew a sewing machine had two threads! I joined the National Quilter’s Circle Quilt Block Challenge, and though I am behind, I am slowly trying to catch up.

The first week’s challenge square was the Celano Star. And I did it in red (I hate red….I avoid it at all costs….which is why I probably why I added in splashes of black, white and gold)!

The first steps included a bunch of different sized flying geese. Not too bad for my first flying geese. But then the center got really tiny (at least for me), and as you can see, it isn’t a pretty sight….

But as you can see, overall, it didn’t come out too bad! Half an inch smaller than it should be, but, considering this is the most complicated quilt square I had ever done before, I am pretty pleased.

At the end of the day, red’s not such a bad color, I guess…..

What color would you hate to sew with? If you can’t find a color you hate, look in your stash and find which color you don’t have a lot of. Then challenge yourself to make something with that color.
